#043 – Friday Fix: How to Stay Strong as the Pandemic Rages On
Last year at this time, we had no idea that we were about to be launched into a global pandemic that would rage on month after month.
Imagine if someone would have warned us that we’d live in a world where restaurants would be forced to close, we’d be discouraged from seeing our families on holidays, and travel would essentially come to a screeching halt? We wouldn’t have believed it.
Yet, here we are.
Not surprisingly, studies show this year has taken a serious toll on our mental health. And many people are struggling to stay mentally strong.
So today, I’m talking about coping skills.
These are the strategies that can help you deal with all those uncomfortable emotions that are likely getting stirred up these days–from anxiety and frustration to fear and boredom.
I’ll teach you the two essential kinds of coping skills you need; problem-focused coping skills and emotion-focused coping skills.
I’ll also help you recognize when a coping skill is healthy and when it’s introducing newer or bigger problems into your life. If you find yourself overeating or reaching for an extra glass of wine, you’re not alone. Most people have been leaning on some not-so-healthy coping strategies during the pandemic.
If you’d like some concrete strategies to help you deal with your emotions right now, this episode is for you.
