#013 Meet Mike Eruzione
If you’ve watched the movie Miracle, you know who Mike Eruzione is. He was the captain of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, and he scored the winning goal against the Soviets.
The Soviets were expected to win the gold medal. They dominated hockey every year.
But the US team pulled off a miracle and beat the Soviets.
It’s been 40 years, and we’re still talking about it. When you hear Mike talk about his experience, you’ll understand why. He’s an authentic, strong person who finds genuine joy in life’s simplest pleasures.
So even if you’ll never win an Olympic gold medal, I’ll bet you can relate to feeling like an underdog. Whether you thought a promotion was a long-shot, or you’ve felt like everyone else has more advantages than you in life, rest assured Mike Eruzione’s story will give you hope that you can beat the odds.
Some things Mike and I discuss:
- How to develop a positive mindset when you’re an underdog
- How to think like a champion
- How to tackle goals that seem impossible
- How to ensure success doesn’t change you for the worse
- Why hard work often leads to good luck
- How to ensure one moment in your life doesn’t define who you are
- How to stay true to your values
Quotes:
“I would never want to go into a game thinking I got no chance. Even though in the back of my mind, I know it’s gonna be real hard. But the front of my mind was always saying, play let’s find out what happens.”
“You know, they say the glass is half full. My glass is always full. I just take each day and enjoy it.”
“I can sit by myself and be proud of what I did and what I accomplished, because I know how hard I worked to get there.”
“I want people to know my life wasn’t one game, one goal, one shot.”
