Manage Life’s Ups and Downs with Latin Producer of the Year Tony Succar

#038 Meet Tony Succar
Tony Succar is a recording artist, songwriter, and producer. In 2019, he won two Latin Grammys—one for “Best Salsa Album” and one for being “Producer of the Year.”
Tony is well-known for a project he did called Unity: The Latin Tribute to Michael Jackson. But he’s gone on to create lots of great music since then.
Like many people in the music world, Tony experiences pressure to work all the time. And even though he has experienced a lot of great things in the music industry, he acknowledges there are some tough times too.
One of the many things I appreciated about my conversation with Tony is that he doesn’t pretend like he has everything all figured out. Even though he’s mentally strong, he acknowledges he’s a work in progress. He continues to struggle with being a “workaholic” — something I think a lot of people can relate to these days.
Some of the things Tony and I talk about:
- Tony’s struggle with “workaholism” and what he’s doing about it
- How to say no and find joy in life
- How to find the courage to talk to a therapist (and how to know when it’s time to do so)
- How to deal with guilt in a healthy way
- Why you should stand up for yourself when you believe in something (and how Tony petitioned the GRAMMYs even when people warned him not to)
- Why it’s so important to surround yourself with positive people
- How to make mental health a bigger priority in your life
- How to learn from older people so you don’t repeat the same mistakes
- Why therapy isn’t for “broken people”
Quotes:
“There’s a solution to your problem, no matter what it is.”
“You don’t want to regret anything so follow your heart.
“We’re always looking at the bad side of whatever happens. We’re always thinking we’re not good enough because we’re always wanting more.”
“Put your ego aside and have the courage to say, ‘I need help.’”
“Just like you take care of your health with your diet or with exercise, your mental health is super important.”
