Mentally Strong Relationships with Tony Gaskins

#005 Meet Tony Gaskins
A lot of readers have asked me to talk about mental strength and relationships. It’s a subject I haven’t covered much. So I decided to bring Tony Gaskins on the show to share some of his relationship advice.
Tony Gaskins is a husband and a father. He’s also a speaker, author, and life coach.
Without a big team, publicist, or any marketing gimmicks, Tony has amassed millions of social media followers. He’s even been able to share his story on Oprah and the Tyra Banks Show. He creates genuine content every day, and people gravitate toward his messages about love and life.
Tony acknowledges he used to make a lot of mistakes in relationships. He also witnessed people around him making a lot of mistakes as well. But, he learned from those mistakes. And now he shares what he learned.
Some of the things Tony and I talk about:
- The biggest relationship mistake most men make
- Why it’s easier to suppress pain than deal with it
- How to express emotions in a healthy way
- The biggest relationship mistake most women make
- How to set healthy boundaries (and why they’re important)
Quotes:
“Does it make sense to want to have a daughter but not treat her mother the way I would want a man to treat her? And I think really that’s the first mistake that men make is not looking at the man in the mirror and saying, ‘Does this make sense?’”
“We think mental toughness means not admitting that you’re hurting. We try to ignore the pain. And then it just festers.”
“Open up and express more. If it’s with a therapist, if it’s with a best friend, a spouse, just say what you’re feeling.”
“I realized that any time in my life I’ve ever tried to lie or be something that I wasn’t, people knew it Even though I didn’t know, they knew it. And I learned in observing other people that no one is fooling me and that every person I look at, I can see them.”
