There are a lot of misconceptions about what it means to be mentally stronger and how to know when you are gaining strength. Unfortunately, society often rewards us for acting tough while not actually being strong. This can lead to confusion and frustration about whether you are getting better and growing stronger.
As a therapist, I want everyone to know that if you are doing any of these 10 things, you are probably already stronger than you give yourself credit for. Keep in mind that we are all a work in progress, and there is always room for improvement.
“It takes more courage to be vulnerable and to acknowledge that you’re working on improving yourself than it does to pretend that you’re perfect.”
“Arguing with a stranger about politics doesn’t do anyone any good. And wasting energy just because you want to win an argument isn’t exactly a hallmark of mental strength.”
“It just means that you had the strength and you had the self respect to put yourself in a better situation.”
“It takes courage and confidence to show kindness.”
“But the truth is we all have things we could work on. And admitting those things doesn’t mean that you’re a weak person.”
