You don’t need to feel happy all the time. Experiencing uncomfortable emotions, like sadness and anxiety, is healthy. But when you feel stuck in a dark place or your emotions aren’t helpful, some strategies can shift how you feel.
In this episode, I share how to identify your personal mood boosters. It’s a strategy we often use in the therapy office to help people gain better control over their emotions. Whether you need a boost during your lunch break or you want a go-to strategy when you’re feeling lonely, here’s how to identify the things that can help you feel better fast.
“Emotions aren’t either positive or negative. Any emotion can be helpful sometimes and unhelpful at other times.”
“Change your behavior first. The feelings will often follow.”
“The goal of a mood booster is to shift your mood when your emotional state isn’t serving you well.”
“You already know the things that will help you feel better. So create your own personal list of mood boosters and pick things to do from that list as needed.”
