What if letting yourself feel bad could actually make you stronger? There’s a lot of pressure to be happy or to improve your mood all the time. But sometimes, feeling terrible isn’t just OK, it’s actually helpful.
Our natural response to feeling bad is to fix the situation or avoid the feeling, which can actually make things worse. Learning to embrace and process uncomfortable emotions is a key part of building mental strength.
Some of the things I share are:
"Most of us are terrible at feeling awful. We don't know how to do it."
"Sometimes the reaction to feeling bad is actually creating the problem."
"The strongest people aren't the ones who never feel awful; the strongest people are the ones who learned that they can feel awful without making it worse."
"When you accept a feeling, it gets rid of that second layer of suffering."
"Emotions are like waves. You can try to fight the wave, but it’s going to knock you over anyway. Or you can learn to ride the wave and it carries you to shore."
