53 — Develop Self-Compassion & Drown Out Your Inner Critic by Asking Yourself This Question Every Day

November 10, 2023

The way you talk to yourself greatly affects your mental health and your mental strength. If you call yourself names, put yourself down, or beat yourself up, you’ll create a lot of extra hardship for yourself.

Fortunately, you can learn to change your inner dialogue. When you do, you’ll discover that self-compassion is a superpower that can help you in many areas of your life.

Some of the things I share are:

  • How self-compassion can improve your self-worth, motivation, and body image.
  • What self-compassion really means.
  • The one question that can help you develop a healthier inner dialogue.
  • How to make self-compassion second nature

Key Takeaways:

  • Self-compassion boosts happiness, enhances self-worth, increases motivation, improves body image, reduces psychological distress, and makes you more resilient.
  • When you catch yourself being overly critical, ask yourself, “What would I say to my friend right now?” and give yourself the same kind words.
  • Recognize and pay attention to your thought patterns and emotions to develop self-compassion.
  • Practice self-compassion by talking to yourself the same way you would talk to a trusted friend.

Quotes:

“Self-compassion is a superpower that can help you in so many different areas of your life.”

“Whenever you start beating yourself up or putting yourself down, just pause and say, ‘What would I say to my friend right now?’ and then give yourself that same advice.”
